The most fun entry in the April bundle was the tiny little 'zine called Aussie Critters by the mysterious JackRabbit (Jacki Bussenius of Australia). I learned a lot in very little space about some of the unique fauna from down under.
I got a giggle out of Danny and Marsha Kelly's card "Hello, I am lost . . "
Next there was Steve Ingram's Mini Zine No. 3 called "ABANDONED" about a once vital Indiana State Sanitorium at Rockville. The photos and descriptions reminded me of one such institute here in West Virginia, one of the oldest in the USA, Weston State Hospital. It was built when West-By-Gosh was still part of Virginia and abandoned decades ago. It pops up as the subject of a "Ghost Hunters" type TV show now and then. Creepy, nasty and Terrifying.
Lastly I liked the challenge Laurie Kitzke gave us to make something interesting out of a set of border components, or Alpha Blox from Skyline type. I have been trying to make a "Bethlehem" out of some of my sorts for years and I will get it done someday. This thing of Laurie's should appeal to Jigsaw puzzle enthusiasts!
Amateur journalism is a unique activity. Amateur journalists publish journals on paper & online & come from many perspectives: from deluxe letterpress printed journals, to Xeroxed newsletters, to artistically designed cards and ephemera. We embrace the spirit of being amateurs – loving what we do for pure joy and not financial gain – while creating top quality journals, zines, and homemade publications.
