Here’s a shout out to our wonderfully imaginative mailer Heather Lane for most creative use of bundle envelopes!
Writing of the Month : June Bassemir’s “Hello Little Bundle” warmed my heart. “Hello Little Bundle” is a prose poem to life itself, emotional, gracious, and absolutely lovely.
Project of the Month: John Carvalho proves that we are a very creative group of folks in the AAPA. His broadside, complete with poem, bursts with color. This is why I look forward receiving the bundle in the mail – it is literally, every month, full of surprises.
Journal of the Month: One thing I should never be surprised about is the consistent quality of Clarence Wolfshohl’s Anonymous Quarterly. The 30th edition of this journal delves into bluebonnets & the Texas hills, and brushes up against personal and family history with poignant clarity. I can’t praise Anonymous Quarterly enough – Clarence’s coda discusses an iconic painting by Texan artist Julian Onderdonk – a work of art within a work of art.
Special mention in April goes to the folks at Nine-18-Thousanths Press, for My Favorite Animal which not only made me laugh, but the whole journalism class that I teach at work as well.
Amateur journalism is a unique activity. Amateur journalists publish journals on paper & online & come from many perspectives: from deluxe letterpress printed journals, to Xeroxed newsletters, to artistically designed cards and ephemera. We embrace the spirit of being amateurs – loving what we do for pure joy and not financial gain – while creating top quality journals, zines, and homemade publications.
