April's bundle reminds us that "Success consists not so much in sitting up nights as being awake in the daytime" (thanks Mark McComas). Reading the bundle this evening--between daytime and night--I had no trouble staying awake.
The cover of Eric W. Ward's BLOCKAGE (a stunning red block print) promised something gripping and ominous. Inside, the pages of his typewritten short story (a surreal mashup of several sorts of blockage) surely delivered.
Reading Bargain Bin DJ Number 9 prompted me, as Fred Moe's previous issues did, to see if this month's forgotten 45 was on spotify--and it was! What a treat to read Fred's recommendation and then to listen to Tommy Willis' "KC Drive."
Laurie Kitzke shared a print celebration of her "weird but favorite font:" Romnay. I hope we get to see more of Romnay in future bundles.
Finally, Steve Ingram's 8 page photo-illustrated Mini Zine about the glories of cast iron pans (and apple pies baked in them) made me hunger for a bedtime snack and appreciate my own cast iron pan even more.
Amateur journalism is a unique activity. Amateur journalists publish journals on paper & online & come from many perspectives: from deluxe letterpress printed journals, to Xeroxed newsletters, to artistically designed cards and ephemera. We embrace the spirit of being amateurs – loving what we do for pure joy and not financial gain – while creating top quality journals, zines, and homemade publications.
