Plenty of December Choices

The AAPA's December bundle was nice and thick, with members producing 13 different pieces. All were praiseworthy, but here are the ones that stood out to me:

Dylan S. Wylde's The Philosopher (issue no, 02) was the largest, at sixteen 5½ by 8½ inch pages plus cover. The front cover shows a cozy Christmas scene, an ironic contrast to the lead story, a reprint of noted horror author (and amateur journalist) H. P. Lovecraft's 1925 Yuletide tale, "The Festival." Dylan also includes his own poem "Beyond Twilight's Fading Glory" and promotes his commercial magazine Tales of Horror.

At the other end of the size spectrum is Mini Zine #11, with a page size of 2¾ by 4¼ inchs. In it, Steve Ingram describes his participation in National Novel Writing Month in 2021, 2022, and 2024. He lets us know of his love for writing, and his interest in typewriters.

George Harnish uses a 5-inch square page for Random Cubes unit 07 ("Now With More Pixels!"). In it, he shares his eclectic thoughts on a wide variety of topics, including the AAPA bundle, his transition from sixth grade to high school, drinking tea, and production of his amateur journal.

Why AAPA?, a letterpress piece by "Printer, Wood Engraver, Photographer, A-- Scratcher, and all around Junk Collector" Austin Jones, describes why he enjoys his AAPA membership.

John Carvalho's pangram (a sentence containing all the letters of the alphabet) is also letterpress-printed. Produced on hand-made paper and illustrated with what look like linoleum block cuts, it is truly an art project.
