There was lots of interesting content in the March 2025 AAPA bundle. Here are five items that caught my eye:
I cannot recall the last time we saw an epic poem in the AAPA bundle, but Smita Bharti's "Spring fever," a humorous story about a flockk of chickens, rolicks on for 21 stanzas. Simply amazing!
Liz Ellsworth letterpress-printed a "pocket poster" about Creativity. She introduces herself with a small sheet taped to the back, and thanks AAPA for "inspiration and motivation" in the bundles she has received. We learned even more about her via a "Who's New in AAPA" writeup in the March AAJ.
Mini Zine #14 describes the meaning behind "Four Dimes." Steve Ingram writes about family history and closes with a poignent poem.
Clarence Wolfshohl provides the largest private amateur journal of the month with Cahokia, a fascinating essay about the largest city in North America before European explorers arrived. (Of course, Clarence also edited the even-larger March American Amateur Journalist, our official organ.)
Laurie Kitzke essay on her family's relationship to cake is an excellent example of what AAPA officers are suggesting as the theme for the June bundle: Food. I hope Laurie can come up with another piece just as savory, and I hope you can use her example as inspiration to produce your own. (More details can be found in AAPA Announcements in the March bundle.)
Amateur journalism is a unique activity. Amateur journalists publish journals on paper & online & come from many perspectives: from deluxe letterpress printed journals, to Xeroxed newsletters, to artistically designed cards and ephemera. We embrace the spirit of being amateurs – loving what we do for pure joy and not financial gain – while creating top quality journals, zines, and homemade publications.
