The Best Summer Ever bundle is a major success – the bundles are more phenomenal with each passing month. August 2018 is a smorgasbord of gorgeous journals and projects – every single item deserves recognition and merit. However reluctantly, I’m going to share my personal favorite highlights:
Writing of the Month: Heather Lane’s prose memoire first Luv is completely charming. But more than that, her writing is sparse and evocative.
Journal of the Month: Peter Schaub’s The Pearl Number 15 is an outstanding example of amateur journalism and features two very skillful writers – June Bassemir and Sheryl Nelms. Beautifully printed and presented.
Projects of the Month: Our hard-working secretary-treasurer John Carvalho has prepared a wonderful AAPA member directory to help facilitate higher levels of communication and connection. Please take full advantage of John’s effort and keep this reference handy on your writing desk – I intend to use it frequently and intend to write more notes & letters. The directory is offline, on paper, and a major resource for AAPA members.
Fish Davidson included a fantastic Best Summer Ever Playlist in the bundle which connects to a genre-defying YouTube selection of great summer music. Freeform at its best! I am thrilled to see AAPA members bringing this level of creativity to the bundle & hope we can do more music / video / media crossovers in future bundles. An autumn playlist, anybody?
Amateur journalism is a unique activity. Amateur journalists publish journals on paper & online & come from many perspectives: from deluxe letterpress printed journals, to Xeroxed newsletters, to artistically designed cards and ephemera. We embrace the spirit of being amateurs – loving what we do for pure joy and not financial gain – while creating top quality journals, zines, and homemade publications.
